Your first batch

1. Choose photos using Apple’s photo picker, or tap Try with sample artwork to explore.
2. Choose one canvas ratio for the batch, then a background and frame.
3. In Layout, select Whole photo to keep every edge. Use Crop to fill when you want a closer crop; drag and pinch the preview to position it.
4. Tap Export to prepare new copies. Your original library photos remain untouched.

Free batches hold up to five photos. Matelo Pro removes the app’s photo-count limit.

Choose a shape

You do not need to memorise aspect ratios. Pick a destination name, then choose your export resolution separately.

The 9:16 canvas also suits still photos you plan to add to TikTok or YouTube Shorts. Matelo exports still images, not videos. It is independent of these services.

Give it some room

Solid adds a colour you choose. Blur softens the photo behind your image. Auto selects a representative colour from each original photo, before cropping or framing. Matching happens locally and is included free.

Choosing a manual background colour returns to Solid. Decorative frames keep their own colours. Paper backgrounds and 18 premium frames require Pro to export; you can preview them first.

In Background or Frame, switch from Batch defaults to This photo for an individual override. The override stays when you change the batch defaults. Use Reset styles to return that photo to the shared style.

Your favourites, remembered

Open Settings → Editing defaults to choose your preferred ratio, background, frame, frame width, border colour, canvas padding and export options. Changes save automatically and survive closing the app.

New batches use these choices when created. Existing projects, including photos added to them later, keep their own settings.

Save your signature style

With Pro, open Your presets from the editor. Give the current look a name and tap Save preset. A preset remembers the selected photo’s style and the batch ratio. Photo positioning is kept separate.

Applying a preset updates the batch defaults and shared ratio while preserving individual style overrides. Use the preset’s menu to replace it with your current look or delete it.

Ready for wherever’s next

Tap Export, choose a size, and prepare the batch. Social exports a 1080-pixel-wide canvas. Native detail retains the fitted image’s original pixel detail; bigger borders can make the final canvas larger than the source.

In Advanced export, choose JPEG, PNG or HEIF, and sRGB or Display P3. JPEG and PNG use standard dynamic range. To retain highlights from HDR originals, choose HEIF → Preserve HDR. SDR originals remain SDR, and HDR appearance depends on the receiving app and display.

After preparation, choose Save to Photos or Share files → Save to Files. Denying Photos access does not prevent file sharing. Exports omit camera and location metadata. Free exports have no watermark.

A lifetime of Pro

One optional purchase unlocks 18 premium frames and paper backgrounds, saved presets, and batches with no app-imposed photo-count limit. One-time purchase. No subscription. The price shown by the App Store applies to your region.

Preview premium frames before buying. To export without upgrading, choose Use free styles. Free includes five-photo batches, all ratios, clean borders, solid/blur/automatic backgrounds, editing defaults, local projects and every export format.

Restore a purchase

Open Settings → Restore purchases while signed into the Apple Account that bought Pro. Restore is also on the upgrade screen. Family Sharing is not enabled for this product.

Awaiting approval

Pro unlocks after Apple confirms approval. Use Check purchase status to refresh. If a request was declined, the upgrade screen offers a purchase retry after checking. When Pro is already active, you do not need to buy it again.

After a successful purchase or restore, the upgrade screen closes and your selected premium style stays selected.

Get back to creating

An export paused or failed

Keep Matelo open while exporting. Moving the app to the background pauses the queue. Pause and retry within the same export sheet to keep prepared files and skip successful saves. Closing the export discards its temporary files. Projects survive app restarts, but export queues do not; a new export creates new copies.

A large batch needs more space

Import and export process photos sequentially. Large batches need time and local storage. If space runs out, free some storage and retry; completed work is retained. Other apps may limit the number of files they accept in a single share.

A canvas is too large

Large Native detail canvases can exceed device rendering capacity. Choose Social size or reduce padding and frame width. Matelo reports the limit rather than silently shrinking a Native detail export.

A photo will not import

Allow an iCloud-only original to download through Apple’s picker and check your connection. Live Photos import as still images. RAW-only files are unsupported; export a JPEG or HEIF copy first.

Saving to Photos is denied

Use the system Settings app to review Matelo’s Photos permission, or choose Share files to save elsewhere. Your original images are not modified.

A studio on your device

Projects, imported copies, thumbnails, edits, defaults and presets are stored locally. Long-press a batch to rename, duplicate or delete it. Removing a photo from a batch keeps its local copy for editing recovery; deleting the project removes its stored copies.

Exported images remain in Photos, Files or the destination you chose. Back up anything you need before deleting Matelo. Device backups may include app data according to your Apple settings; Matelo does not provide its own project-sync service.
